UX Research — Discovering the Egyptian market for coffee shops and interviewing potential user
After founding a gap in the market between small coffee shops and their clients as if you are a client who wants to drink coffee you will need to visit the actual store which will reflect in time consuming. Exploring the Egyptian market in 2021 on (Statista Website) I found that the people from 18–44 years old are consuming about 85% of the coffee consumed in Egypt.
Hence, my scope is the working people between the age of 18 and the age of 44 because they are the most likely to be familiar with the mobile apps and they are always in harry.
I choose one of my friends to be the center of my UX research (I replaced the name and picture of him with anonymous details). One of the most important parts of the UX research parts is to identify your goal and having a persona for one of the users will help me to have a goal which will be solving the problem of my friend.
The interview
The first step in understanding the user is to meet him and talk to him which will enable me to have a deeper understanding of him and create my empathy map. Choosing the questions, I tried to use open ended questions which would help user to open up and talk which could result in exploring new ideas, also this helps Not to direct user into any opinion.
In the interview I asked the following questions:
1. What do you think about coffee?
2. When do you like to drink it?
3. Where is the coffee shop you are buying from it?
4. How is the ordering process?
5. What do need to make the process better?
6. What do you think about the food ordering mobile apps?
After analyzing the interview (Recorded with the permission of the user), I came up with the following empathy map:
From the interview I derived
User Story
“As a coffee person who has no machines around him. I want to get a cup of coffee before work without wasting time. So that I can work effectively and save time.”
User Journey map
From the notes I took during the interview, I managed to create the user journey map which would enable me to find the opportunities and gaps in the market.
